about

a part of my artistic process is to create hundreds of pieces in one manic rush (typically end of winter into spring) & then to mete them out across various releases throughout the year (&some tracks end up in a folder no one will ever hear). 2k20 became the year of the split for me, between releases with angel marcloid (fire-toolz, nonlocal forecast, etc), whettman chelmets, phirnis, dogs vs shadows, & my good friend, mattlikestapes. i had been a big fan of his comics & we had some mutuals so i decided to reach out, & i'm glad i did because matt has turned out to be one of the most supportive & sweet people i know. we decided to do a split release through a label that provided us nothing but headaches & then folded shortly after releasing our album. so here is my side of our release which i'm really proud of, & you can cop matt's side here mattlikestapes.bandcamp.com/album/heavylightdreams-side-b

It's always interesting seeing qualchan. splitting pieces up with more noisier, abrasive artists on his albums whenever they do. There's a nice contrast to be found between the more sporadic, experimental loops on the first half when you get to pair with a more cohesive force, like watching a thick darkness melt over onto a perfectly sculpted statue and create something oddly captivating. Fans of either experimental, industrial loop work and psychedelic tape manipulations will like this one. Cardian Matsu
